Know and fix your cloud security gaps with Defender for Cloud.

Microsoft Defender for Cloud shows how secure your Azure environment is, tells you what to fix first and protects workloads from attack. We configure it and act on what it finds.

What it is

What is Microsoft Defender for Cloud?

Microsoft Defender for Cloud is the security management service for Azure and hybrid environments. It continuously checks your resources against security best practice, reports a Secure Score and lists recommended fixes, ranked by impact.

It also provides threat protection through optional Defender plans for servers, storage accounts, databases, containers and more. These add detection of attacks, vulnerability scanning and integration with endpoint protection.

In practice, most cloud breaches come from misconfiguration: open storage, exposed management ports, over privileged accounts. Defender for Cloud makes those visible and gives you a way to fix and track them.

A free tier of cloud security posture management is enabled for Azure subscriptions and gives recommendations and a Secure Score. Paid plans add deeper capabilities such as attack path analysis, agentless scanning and regulatory compliance reporting.

Defender for Cloud can also assess AWS and Google Cloud accounts, so multicloud environments are viewed in one place.

How it works

How Microsoft Defender for Cloud works.

01

Connect

Enable Defender for Cloud on subscriptions and onboard servers.

02

Assess

Review Secure Score, recommendations and compliance results.

03

Fix

Prioritize and remediate high impact issues first.

04

Protect and monitor

Enable relevant Defender plans and watch alerts and incidents.

Under the hood

What happens behind the scenes.

Defender for Cloud reads the configuration of your Azure resources through Azure’s control plane, and evaluates it against built in policies and the Microsoft cloud security benchmark. Findings appear as recommendations that explain the risk and show how to fix it, sometimes with a one click remediation.

Where Defender plans are enabled, additional sensors and agentless scanners look inside servers and services for vulnerabilities and attacks. Alerts and incidents are sent to the portal and can feed a SIEM such as Microsoft Sentinel.

Business impact

How it benefits your business.

Defender for Cloud turns an invisible risk into a visible, measurable one. Instead of wondering whether Azure is configured safely, you have a score and a list of what to do about it.

It reduces the likelihood of the common breaches that start with misconfiguration, and it detects attacks that reach your servers. That protects data, uptime and reputation.

The compliance views also help show insurers, clients and auditors that you manage the security of your cloud environment.

Pricing: Foundational posture management and recommendations are included. Defender plans for servers, storage, databases and other services are billed per resource. Azure prices and features change, so we confirm current pricing and design to a budget before you commit.

In practice

What this looks like day to day.

After a migration, Defender for Cloud flags that two storage accounts allow public access and a VM exposes remote desktop to the internet. Infinity closes those, enables just in time access, and the Secure Score rises from 40 percent to 80 percent. The monthly review keeps it there.

This is an illustrative example of how the service is used, not a description of a specific client.

Avoid the common problems

Mistakes we see, and how we avoid them.

01

Ignoring recommendations

A score nobody acts on does not help. Assign owners and review monthly.

02

Enabling every plan

Paid plans add cost. Enable what matches your risks.

03

No response process

Alerts need someone to handle them, or a managed service.

04

Misreading the score

A high score is not the same as a secure business. Treat it as a guide.
